Project Overview: Collaborated in the conceptual design and preliminary integration of the vehicle's powertrain. Developed the mathematical and structural framework for a custom test stand to validate our motor performance against simulated loading conditions.
My Involvement
Trade Studies: Conducted mechanical and packaging trade studies to compare a traditional single rear motor setup against an in-hub motor design. Evaluated vehicle-level impacts, including changes to suspension geometry constraints, and overall drivetrain feasibility, to justify the design change.
Motor Test Stand Design: Developed the framework for a custom dynamometer test stand to characterize a potential in-hub motor under load.
Sub-System Integration: Collaborated closely with the Chassis, Aerodynamics, and Electrical sub-systems during the conceptual phase. Defined hardpoints and evaluated spatial constraints to ensure the new powertrain hardware didn't interfere with the frame structure, aero packages, or high-voltage routing.
CAD Development: Developing a 3D model of the vehicle's powertrain through Solidworks.
